1. Oso Technologies’ PlantLink

We all know that plants improve air quality and bring a natural, thriving look to any space. If you’re like most people, though, you’re too busy to keep track of which one you last watered until it’s too late.

PlantLink fixes that. Drop this tiny device in the soil next to your plant and let it alert you when you need to swoop in with the watering can. You can even have watering alerts sent to your email, via text, or as a push notification.

2. Kwikset Kevo

Who gets a key to your front door, and how many spares do you need? What will you do if you lock yourself out? (Don’t laugh – it happens to the best of us!)

A programmable lock like the one on the HGTV Smart Home Carbine built is also a great keyless option and can be found at places like Home Depot.

Although it looks like an average lock, you can open the Kwikset Kevo with your smartphone or its included fob. The Kevo operates like a normal lock, too, so you can use a regular key if your phone’s battery is dead. You can even use it to assign virtual keys to other people, and the Kevo app tells you who’s gone in and who’s gone out of your home using digital locking technology in real-time.

3. Belkin WeMo Insight Switch

It’s an outlet, but it puts regular outlets to shame. The WeMo Insight Switch lets you disable electricity flow using your smartphone, so devices that you forgot to turn off (coffeepot, anyone?) or those that continually suck power during the day won’t leave you worrying when you’re not home. You can even use the WeMo to track energy consumption and find out where all your power is going.
