Described as crafting character in a Tennessean story, a partnership between Carbine & Associates and Narrow Gate Artisans is supporting young men learning carpentry while yielding beautiful architectural elements for Carbine custom home building through a faith-based mentorship program.

Carbine & Associates VP of Operations Daryl Walny is partnering with Narrow Gate Artisans to produce a cedar box beam for custom home projects. Pictured left to right are Brent Brown, Phil Stoner, pres. of Narrow Gate Artisans, Burke Reynolds and Blake Smith with Walny.

“Not all homes have the structural elements to support a solid wood beam,” explains Daryl Walny, Carbine VP of Operations. “We have been looking for a solution for a mitered corner box beam, a popular element in homes needing a farmhouse element. It has been difficult to produce this onsite and our partnership with Narrow Gate Artisans has been a great solution.”

Narrow Gate Artisans is a social enterprise working with young men 18 to early 20s who have decided to pursue their passion and gifts by working with their hands with wood, leather or metal, says Phil Stoner, organization president.

“We get to invest in these young men teaching them craftsmanship, business, and leadership skills as well as encourage them in their lives and helping them find their passion and purpose in life,” Stoner said.

Walny said there are a diminishing number of young people pursuing carpentry across the United States. “As a custom home builder, it is important for us to support our industry. These men have a passion for creating good work. We could acquire the beams via the Internet but we are also proud to be supporting a locally made product.”

In the future, plans are being made to include Narrow Gate Artisans beams in the October House for Hope Designer Show House open for tour in the new Williamson County Southern Preserve neighborhood in partnership with team of Southeast design tastemakers with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Middle Tennessee children’s charities.
